Frontier War Stories is a podcast exploring the history of the Australian frontier wars and the experiences of Aboriginal people during colonisation. I was commissioned by an Aboriginal podcaster to create a logo that captured the resilience, resistance and strength of Aboriginal people on the frontier.

I wanted the illustration to communicate both the historical context and the confronting reality of frontier violence. The central figures are an Aboriginal woman and man dressed in period clothing, facing the viewer with a shotgun. Their direct gaze and defensive stance create a sense of strength and resistance, while challenging the viewer to confront the history represented by the podcast.

The composition incorporates a map of Australia in Aboriginal flag colours, smoke signals travelling along the coastline and a skull formed from smoke, referencing the loss of life and violence associated with the frontier. The arrival of the First Fleet is depicted in the background, grounding the illustration within the historical timeline of colonisation.

The result is a bold, confronting identity designed to communicate the podcast's subject matter immediately while remaining visually recognisable across different applications. The illustration has since been used across merchandise including T-shirts and stickers and has become a recognisable image within Brisbane's Aboriginal rights and activism community.
